Fleming's left-hand rule is hard to apply from a flat textbook diagram because the whole point is that the three quantities are mutually perpendicular. This 3D simulation lets you rotate a hand model together with the field, current and force vectors until the relationship clicks.

La physique derrière

A wire carrying current I across a magnetic field B experiences a force F = BIL·sinθ, directed perpendicular to both. With the left hand, the first finger points along the field, the second along the conventional current, and the thumb then gives the direction of the resulting motion. When current runs parallel to the field, sinθ is zero and there is no force at all.
